Captain Banks took over a thousand photographs during his lifetime, many of which were taken while at sea. The subjects of his camera were varied, but included shots of boats, his crew, and his catches. Banks meticulously wrote on the backs of his photographs, recording when they were taken along with other information such as names of people and fish pictured, geographic coordinates, as well as the occasional commentary or anecdote.
